Super Rugby Organizers Sanzaar Rejects To Cancel Upcoming Games Due to Covid-19

The authorities say, if the competition will not start again in April, then Super rugby 2020 season will end.

The chief executive of Sanzaar Andy Marinos told to Newshub, if the super rugby tournament suspended for a month or more, it would have to be canceled.

Marinos told NewsHub if the tournament suspension lasts for four to five weeks, then at that point it is impossible, upcoming schedule of rugby is already tightened with different games and leagues which makes impossible for us to cancel the 2020 super rugby schedule.

After the New Zealand Government declaration, the Sanzaar said in a statement, that all travelers who are returning will have to self-isolated at least for 14 days. Moreover, they talked about that they have no choice to suspend the Super rugby 2020 competition, at the end of this weekend’s game for the expected future Time.

The game between Highlanders and Jaguares on Sunday (NZT) in Buenos Aires was canceled and the teams received two points each. Highlander players need to isolate themselves when they return to Dunedin.

The cancellation of the tournament would put Sanzaar in a very unstable situation said Marinos to Newshub.

That is the reason it is so significant for us to work with our broadcasters and we are so resolved to check whether we can build any form of rugby and structure up within a reasonable time-frame," he said

With no income and with no capability to be playing in front of crowded stadiums, everything has a direct impact on the end result.
